Steven Charles Smith, Jur. Dr., FCIArb., is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. He is a member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the North America Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the latter providing thorough training, testing and credentialing of international commercial arbitrators (for example, training and evaluation in the drafting of "reasoned awards" as required by recognition and enforcement treaties for international arbitral awards). He was recently listed by the United States Council for International Business as an arbitrator for ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) arbitrations. He was first appointed to the Commercial Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) in 1981. He is a court-annexed arbitrator for the Circuit Courts of Oregon and panel arbitrator of the Arbitration Service of Portland (ASP). He also has judicial experience as a Judge Pro Tempore and Settlement Referee of the Los Angeles, California Municipal and Superior Courts (1980-1989).As Professor Smith, he has experience teaching business and real estate law at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Loyola-Marymount University, Los Angeles, California (LMU), and Portland State University, Oregon (PSU). When added to his 25 years of civil and commercial litigation experience, including the interests of large and small companies and individuals in the United States and abroad, this background renders him well qualified to arbitrate both domestic and international commercial matters. Steven Smith is available for direct and institutional engagements locally and worldwide as arbitrator or arbitration consultant. |
